Exploding Box Tutorial

Hello there lovelies,

ever made an Exploding Box as a Wedding Gift? Well, they are a lot of fun, believe me.

This pretty one was made for some lovely friends of mine as their wedding card and gift holder. (I placed some money inside a 3"x3" envelope and slid it into one of the pockets I made inside.

Once the lid is pulled off, the whole box opens or 'explodes' as the name suggests.

I used the beautiful Petal Palate DSP, Dies and some of the printed cards from the super handy and divine Memories and More pack - designed to match the Petal Palate suite.

I coloured the birds in using the Stampin' Blends - Pink Pirouette, Rich Razzleberry, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive and Bermuda Bay.

The cake was made using used ribbon spools, I cut and glued the paper around the spools to create a solid look. Then decorated with a bit of lace and some paper flowers.

Gluing the top of the cake onto the ribbon spool.

This pack is full of beautiful pictures, patterns, and sayings that can go into your scrapbook, be used as a gift tag or even used as card fronts.

The exploding box itself is quite easy to create and I'm sure you have seen one before and the measurements - but for your convenience, I will show you the measurements I used for mine.

1. You score a 12"x12" peice of cardstock at 4" on each side.

2. cut off each corner as shown and fold on the score lines. This gives you the base of the box to work with.

3. Add some DSP (patterned paper) or contrasting cardstock to the inside and outside of the four squares - as well as decoration, this also gives the sides some extra weight to help them fall out open when the lid is removed.

The Lid is 7"x7" and scored at 1 1/2" on all sides. trim off a bit of each corner and cut up to the score line on two sides.

You can decorate the lid before assembling as its a bit easier but it's up to you.

Glue and hold the edges together as shown and your lid is complete.

Here is a short little video of my Exploding Box in action.

Thanks for visiting.

Hugs,

Sharni. x
